SOUND
ARTISTS come with a FOH (Front of House) sound engineer. A monitor engineer is not needed. A Rhythm in Shoes show is both music and dance. It includes forms of audible step dancing (clogging, tap, soft shoe) and it is essential that the feet be heard. Because dancers share the stage with a live band, all of the items in this technical rider are required for audio clarity. Sound system must be fully operational at least (1) one hour before scheduled sound check. Our object with the system is to produce the same quality and range of sound to every seat in the house. Sound system requirements to be supplied by PRESENTER are as follows:
-
Speakers and Amps
A professional quality, noise free, stereo, actively crossed 3 or 4 way speaker system (including amps and crossover) as mains. This system must include subwoofers and be able to produce clean, undistorted sound at 100 dB at the FOH mix position.
-
Center Fill
Two small enclosures placed one on each side of the apron to be used as a center “fill” to cover the very front, middle seats. This will require one amp, one EQ, and a separate send from FOH. Normally a “cluster” center fill shooting down will not work within the technical parameters of this show.
-
Subs
Whenever possible, subs should be placed off the stage and on the floor of the house. Flown subs will not be used.
-
NOTE: A single center cluster, or a Bose “Panaray” system will NOT be acceptable as a main speaker system but can be used as balcony fills in conjunction with a main system.
-
FOH Mixing Console
Must be at least 32 (mono) channels with 8 subgroups and 6 aux sends. Mix position needs to be in the house, not in a booth.
-
FOH Processing
- One 1/3 octave EQ for each output channel of house sound (KT, BSS, White preferred) and, depending on console, one1/3 octave EQ to be inserted into a group.
- 4 insertable compressors
- 2 reverb units (Yamaha, Lexicon preferred)
- 1 delay unit for vocals
Must have at the mix position:
-
Monitors
- 3 full range wedges, at least 12’ with 1’ horn
- 2 full range speakers for sidefills (nothing too large please)
-
There will be 3 monitor mixes sent from FOH. Routed via aux 1, 2, and 3. Each mix needs one 1/3 octave EQ. 2 mixes go to the bandstand needing 4 wedges>
- mix 1 = 3 wedges for band
- mix 2 = 1 wedge or speaker on stand for drummer
-
2 small, full range speakers (on stands if possible) share the third mix for dance floor side fills.
-
Mics, stands & cables
- Snake (24 input minimum) next to the drummer, stage right
- (2) two Shure SM81
- 30 mic cables (minimum)
- (5) five tall boom stands
- (2) two straight stands
- (2) two short boom stands
ARTISTS carry some of the mics for the show. However, we will need:
- Plus any and all cables needed to make the entire sound system work at its optimal level (including FOH patching).
-
ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT to be supplied by PRESENTER when ARTISTS travel by air:
-
Drum Kit (preferred brands: Yamaha, DW, or Pearl) including:
- 22″ kick drum with kick pedal
- 10″ and 12″ toms with stand (if not mounted on kick drum)
- 16″ floor tom
- 3 boom cymbal stands
- 1 hi-hat stand
- 1 snare stand
- 1 straight cymbal stand
- 1 drum throne
